Andrea Miskell Wins Spring 2007 Hickory Poker Showdown
With a queen-high
straight, Andrea Miskell knocked out Robert Taylor to win the Spring 2007
Hickory Poker Showdown on Saturday, February 24th. They were the last of
thirty-six participants
who played No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em in a charity fundraiser for Junior
Achievement and
Rotary International. On the final hand, Mr. Taylor went “all-in” with a
pair of Jacks, only to
see overwhelming chip leader Mrs. Miskell complete her straight on the last card
of the tournament.
Mrs. Miskell is the
Showdown’s first two-time champion: she also won the Fall 2005
Showdown. Nick Landry and Beth Watts also returned to the final table. In the
Fall 2006
tournament, Mr. Landry was the First Runner-Up; in the Fall 2005 tournament,
Ms. Watts
was the Second Runner-Up.
The final table consisted of:
Andrea Miskell – Grand Champion
Robert Taylor – First Runner-Up
Nick Landry – Second Runner-Up
Mark Hawkins – Fourth Place
Aaron Swisher – Fifth Place
Patrick Joyner – Sixth Place
Beth Watts – Seventh Place
After winning the
tournament, Mrs. Miskell was awarded the Grand
Champion’s trophy.
In compliance with North Carolina’s gaming laws, the tournament awards no cash
or
prizes of value – only trophies and bragging rights.
Also winning were students in Catawba County. Players in the tournament contributed
over $3000 to support Catawba County Junior Achievement and Rotary International
scholarships.
