John Lamb Wins Fall 2007 Hickory Poker Showdown
With a six-high straight,
John Lamb knocked out Tom Fannin to win the Fall 2007
Hickory Poker Showdown on Saturday, September 8th. Mr. Fannin led the
hand after the flop,
but the turn card completed Mr. Lamb’s straight and gave him the hand and the
championship. They were the last of thirty-five participants played No-Limit
Texas Hold 'Em
in a charity fundraiser for Junior Achievement and Rotary International.
Mr. Lamb was no
stranger to the tournament’s final table: he finished in third place in
the Fall 2006 Showdown. Also returning to the table were Vince Johnson, who
finished fourth in Fall 2005, and Patrick Joyner, who finished in sixth place
in Spring 2007.
The final table consisted of:
John Lamb – Grand Champion
Tom Fannin – First Runner-Up
Jack Perry – Second Runner-Up
Phil Wischerth – Fourth Place
Phil Hearon – Fifth Place
Vince Johnson – Sixth Place
Patrick Joyner – Seventh Place
After winning the
tournament, Mr. Lamb was awarded the Grand Champion’s trophy.
In compliance with North Carolina’s gaming laws, the tournament awards no cash
or
prizes of value – only trophies and bragging rights.
Also winning were
students in Catawba County. Players in the tournament contributed
over $3000 to support Catawba County Junior Achievement and Rotary
International
scholarships.
